Privacy Policy
Deutsch Dojo iOS Application
Effective Date: August 1, 2026
Deutsch Dojo ("we", "us", or "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use the Deutsch Dojo mobile application (the "App") on iOS.
Deutsch Dojo is a German language exam trainer. It is published by Bearacle LLC. By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
1. Information We Collect
Deutsch Dojo collects only what it needs to save your progress and rank practice results. The types of data we handle include:
a) Account Information
An account is required to practise. Signing in is handled entirely through Google Sign-In, and we receive from your Google account:
- Your name
- Your email address
- Your Google profile picture, if you have one
- A unique account identifier
We never see, receive, or store your Google password. Your session is managed securely via Supabase Auth.
b) Profile & Display Name
We store a display name and avatar for you, taken from your Google account by default. You can switch your profile to anonymous at any time from the account sheet, which replaces your name on all public screens with a generated alias such as "Anonym 7".
c) Practice & Exam Data
When you complete an exam module, a round of the email trainer, or a vocabulary game, we save:
- Which exam and module you attempted, and when
- Your raw score, maximum possible score, and scaled score
- How long the attempt took
- Your answers, including the free text you wrote for the Schreiben, Sprechen, and email tasks, together with the examiner feedback generated for them
Your written answers and their feedback are private to your account. Other players can see your scores and display name on the leaderboard, but the database view that serves public results masks your answers and feedback unless you are the signed-in owner of that attempt.
d) Data Stored On Your Device
The App keeps some data locally on your iPhone or iPad so it works quickly and remembers your setup:
- Your interface language (English, German, or Macedonian)
- Your light or dark theme preference
- A cache of your most recent module results
- Your sign-in session token, held in the iOS keychain
This data never leaves your device except as described in this policy, and is removed when you delete the App.
e) Device & Usage Information
We may collect basic iOS device information such as device model, iOS version, and app version to improve compatibility and performance.
f) What We Do Not Collect
- No microphone recording. The Sprechen (speaking) module is answered by typing. The App plays exam audio but never records you.
- No location data.
- No contacts, photos, or health data.
- No advertising identifiers and no cross-app tracking. The App contains no ads and no third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Save your exam attempts and show your progress over time
- Grade your written answers and return examiner-style feedback
- Show your display name, avatar, and scores on the leaderboard and player profiles
- Enable authentication and account management
- Improve app functionality, exam content, and user experience
- Respond to support requests
- Comply with legal obligations when required
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising or marketing profiling.
3. AI Grading of Written Answers
The Schreiben module, the Sprechen module, and the email trainer are graded by an AI examiner. When you submit one of these tasks, the App sends the following to our own server endpoint, which forwards it to Google Gemini:
- The exam task and its content points
- The text you wrote (truncated to a length limit)
- Your chosen feedback language
Your name, email address, and account identifier are not included in this request. Google processes the text under its own terms and privacy policy. Please avoid entering personal details, real addresses, or anything sensitive in your practice answers.
The returned score and feedback are saved with your attempt so you can review it later.
4. Public Leaderboard
Deutsch Dojo has a shared leaderboard. When you are signed in and complete an attempt, the following becomes visible to other players:
- Your display name (or your anonymous alias, if you have enabled anonymous mode)
- Your avatar
- Your scores, level, and attempt dates
Your written answers, the examiner feedback, and your email address are never shown to other players. If you would rather not appear under your real name, switch your profile to anonymous in the account sheet.
5. How Your Data Is Stored
Deutsch Dojo uses a combination of local and cloud storage:
- Local storage: preferences and recent results are cached on your device for fast, offline-friendly access
- Cloud storage: your profile and exam attempts are stored in our secure cloud database, hosted on Supabase
Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest using industry-standard security measures. If you use both the App and the Deutsch Dojo web trainer with the same Google account, both read and write the same profile and results.
6. Third-Party Services
Deutsch Dojo relies on the following third-party services:
- Supabase (authentication and database)
- Google Sign-In (authentication)
- Google Gemini (AI grading of written answers)
- Apple platform services
- Expo (app framework and updates)
- Vercel (hosting for the web trainer and the AI grading endpoint)
These providers may process limited data in accordance with their own privacy policies.
7. Data Retention
We retain your profile and exam attempts for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide our services. You can delete your account and associated data at any time from the account panel in the App — see Delete Account for the steps.
Some aggregated, anonymous data may be retained for analytical purposes even after individual account deletion.
8. Your Rights & Controls
You may:
- Access and review your attempts and written answers within the App
- Hide your identity from other players with anonymous mode
- Sign out at any time, which clears your session from the device
- Delete your account and all associated data from the account panel in the App, or ask us to do it for you
- Request a copy or correction of your data
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or the CCPA, including the right to access, correct, port, or erase your personal data, and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
9. Data Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including:
- Encrypted data transmission (TLS/SSL)
- Row-level security on database tables, so you can only write your own records
- A public results view that masks other players' answers and feedback
- Secure authentication via Supabase Auth, with the session token kept in the iOS keychain
- Server-side API keys that are never shipped inside the App
No system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Children's Privacy
Deutsch Dojo is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App, please contact us and we will delete it.
11. International Data Transfers
Our service providers may process and store data on servers located outside your country of residence, including in the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make changes, we will update the Effective Date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes become effective means you accept the updated Privacy Policy.
