Fuel Meter

Fuel Meter

by Bearacle

What a litre actually costs — and what it is made of.

Fuel prices in North Macedonia are regulated: the Energy Regulatory Commission sets one maximum retail price per fuel for the whole country every Monday, in force from 00:01 the next day. Fuel Meter reads those decisions the moment they are published and shows the current price for every fuel — then breaks it open into purchase cost, excise, VAT, margin, transport and levies, which is the part nobody else publishes. It also carries every filling station in the country on a map, a tank and trip calculator, and a full year of price history.

Currently released as Гориво Метар (Gorivo Metar) — in Macedonian, for North Macedonia only. The prices it shows are national and set by Macedonian regulation, so there is nothing for it to display anywhere else. Other markets may follow under the Fuel Meter name.

Retailers may sell below these caps. In practice they almost never do — which is why there is no cheapest-station-nearby to hunt for, and why the map sorts by distance instead.

The edge

Not just the price — the whole cost stack

The Commission publishes every component of the price it sets, and almost nobody reads them. Fuel Meter parses each decision and lays the stack out per fuel, so a driver can see how much of a litre is fuel and how much is duty. It is arithmetic taken from the decision itself, not an estimate.

Eurosuper BS-95 — what one litre is made of

Illustrative, from a recent decision

Purchase cost 54%
Excise duty 22%
VAT 15%
Margin and storage 7%
Transport and levies 2%

Around 37% of a litre of petrol is duty. The app shows this per fuel, and updates it with every decision.

Features

Why Fuel Meter?

The price, the hour it changes

Every new decision is picked up automatically and is on the phone the next time the app is opened. No release, no waiting.

A year of history

Every decision for every fuel, on a chart you can drag a finger across to read which price applied on which week.

368 filling stations

Every station in the country on a map, sorted by how close it is to you. Location is used to sort the list and is never stored or shared.

Tank and trip calculator

What a full tank costs, how many litres an amount buys, and what a journey costs from the distance and your car's consumption.

Price alerts

A notification when a new decision lands, so you find out the price moved without opening anything.

Works with no signal

The last prices stay on the phone — which is the common case anyway: checking a price out on the motorway.

Verifiable

Where the data comes from

Prices

Taken directly from the published decisions of the Energy Regulatory Commission of North Macedonia. Nothing is copied from another site, and the decision each price came from is linked in the app.

Filling stations

Station locations come from OpenStreetMap, and so does the base map they are drawn on — the pins and the map beneath them come from the same survey.

Checked for a new decision every six hours. Prices are indicative — check the price at the station itself.
